Delirium Tremens VI

By Steven Greyheart

I am lost
downtown for hours.
I circle in the night.
someone asks if I’m okay,
and I nod and lie
because the feds are after me
and it’s too late
for anyone to intervene.
I settle next to a blue dumpster
and hyperventilate
and choke,
and a dog comes up
and stares
and says hello.
a white candle is burning on my desk.
